Aphotic Abjection
Her emotions plummet behind the horizon with the sun;
The voice taunts her, “You are alone.”
Outlines of cars fade into shining headlights;
The voice taunts her, “You are alone.”
Masses of people file into their homes;
The voice taunts her, “You are alone.”
Creatures huddle together for slumber;
The voice taunts her, “You are alone.”
All of Earth’s particles settle into their crevices;
The voice taunts her, “You are alone.”
So she searches the shadows
But mistakes the dark silence for solitude,
And she believes the voice;
“I am alone.”
