Mama Mia
When I first saw a preview for Mamma Mia I was a little skeptical about a movie that showcased old ABBA tunes. As I prepared to scoff and make fun, I realized halfway through the preview that I had become interested in the plotline: a young girl who is getting married comes across an old diary of her mother’s, and reads it in order to figure out who her father is, since her mother never told her. The movie centers around the main character Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) trying to determine which of the three men (Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgaard) are really her father. The movie also includes an excellent portrayal of Sophie’s mother by award-winning actress Meryl Streep.
All in all, this was a great movie filled with dance-worthy songs by the epic musical group ABBA. I would recommend this movie to all who enjoyed Hairspray and other musicals.
