Most of the time they're in color,

Sometimes they're black and white.

They replay over and over again in your head.

The good,

the bad,

the sad,

they're like movies that play repeatedly in your brain,

In your youth you can simply look back inside your head to discover pieces of your past from when you were 9, 7, 5, 4, and so on.

You can taste,

smell,

touch,

see your memories as if that moment of your life just played out before your eyes.

There is no end to the  memories you can recall when your young.

Your at the age of 18,

Everything seems great.

your young,

beautiful,

smart,

free,

you feel like a butterfly who just broke free from its cacoon.

You barely think of your past,

You only think of what lies ahead,

College, highschool graduation, your amazing roomate that you´ll be living with soon.

On the off chance that you think back to the past,

Everything seems intact,

You remember big things,

Small things

the only thing that seems hard to remember,

is everything when you were at the age of 4,3, or even 5.

You can ́t remember what your first pet looked like,

or the first thing you drew.

But you are young, and you can recall almost everything while your young.

Fast forward to when your 53,

you can remember the defining moments of your life,

But you forget all of the small things from the past that used to bring you joy or sorrow or anger.

You forget the pieces of your life that were small, like what your daughters favorite color used to be or what your son used to play with as a baby,

memories that were small, yet still have significance.

The memories that you could think of easily when you were young.

At 79,

memories are starting become fuzzy,

things that you could remember at the drop of a hat seem to be disappearing.

Your childhood completely vanished into thin air, as well as your 20 ́s and 30 ́s,

You can still remember the birth of your kids and grand kids but your marriage becomes a bit sketchy,

but still there.

Everything is intact, but barely.

Remember back when you could remember things clearly and in detail,

you can remember back to when you were young.

Now your 97,

the part of your life that you ́ve been scared of.

Memories are slipping away,

The good,

The bad,

The sad,  everything is just slipping away.

When you look back to your brain you see a foggy cloud ready to overcome you at any second.

You can barely remember your marriage or the birth of your kids,

you even struggle to think of your grandkids names when you wake up in the morning.

Nothing comes to you when you think of what you did yesterday, or the day before.

The present seems unimportant if you can ́t remember your past,

you wonder if maybe there is nothing to remember,

but then you think back to when memories were clear and easy to grasp,

you think back to what´s left of your memories when you were young.
