Little Women Book Review
“Oh, my girls, however long you may live, I never can wish you a greater happiness than this!” Says Mrs. March in Little Women by Louisa May Alcott (562). The March sisters go through many different events dealing with conflicts, relationships, poverty, and wealth as they grow up during the Civil War. Louisa May Alcott was a writer, teacher, seamstress, as well as a Civil War nurse. She had three sisters and she wrote the book about her life. The character Jo is supposed to be Louisa. The main characters of the book are the four March sisters: Beth, Meg, Amy, and Jo. Alcott has written many novels such as Little Men, Jo’s Boys, and How They Turned Out. However, her most popular book is Little Women. The genre of this book is historical fiction. I think the theme of this book is growing up and self-worth.
In my opinion, I cannot relate to any of the characters because I do not have any similarities to them. The main two conflicts of Little Women are person vs. society and person vs. self. The part in the book that stood out to me the most was the change from when Jo went from dealing with poverty like all her sisters to writing many different novels and becoming wealthy. I think that students who have confidence in reading books that have higher reading levels will be able to read and comprehend this book. Although I found some parts of the book to be a little hard to understand, I would say I thoroughly enjoyed reading it because my favorite genre is historical fiction. I would recommend this book to readers who love books that are based on real events or who like books that are on a higher reading level.
