Where I'm From
I am from miles of backroads,
from driving into the night lost in thought,
from listening to the same Toby Keith song on shuffle.
I am from nights and mornings,
from working at six to fishing till midnight,
from Sunday in the woods before service.
I am from a dead end road,
from scraped knees and laughter,
from running through the sprinkler on a summer day.
I am from a town,
from watching packer games with family,
from pick up basketball games with friends.
I am from winters in Wisconsin
from playing in the snow until I feel the numbing pain in my fingers,
from going inside to sip hot chocolate.
I am from weekends spent up north,
from snowmobiling,
from fresh, powdery snow.
I am from a business
from a summer of aching pains and hard labor,
from spending my freetime working with my dad.
I am from a family of four,
from spending time with one another,
from helping each other be better.
