The Handsome Devil

A set of eyes met mine and
my heart sank like an anchor.
He grabbed my throat and I stiffened.
His taut hands grappled for my soul
and he effortlessly won.
My broken body slumped down slowly
as he rose with victory. A sickeningly
sweet smile appeared on his lips as he threw
my weary carcass across his back.
I watched as the last drops of hope
slipped from my fingertips like blood.
I had lost it all to a man with a handsome look
and an eloquent tongue.
