Sample Poems written by Lydia Rose Murphy
#1:
The Power of Pencils and Pens
Much of our worldly knowledge,
Evolved from these handy tools.
They’ve been used to write essays,
And formulas and rules.
They’ve always remained so basic,
Yet they’ve crafted works of art.
With their useful and simple power,
They’ve assisted in mankind’s part.
The pencil is used everywhere,
To create stories, projects and words.
And a man named Edward even said,
“The pen is mightier than the sword.”
People have used them skillfully,
In their lives everyday,
In many different kinds of work,
In many different ways.
They can create a person’s imagination,
No matter what, where or when.
Our ideas and dreams can come to life,
With the power of pencils and pens!
#2:
The Family Bond
Lo and behold, the sweetly smiling skies,
My heart’s like a singing bird from within.
I ring out my voice and open my eyes,
T’is time for my life to begin.
My future looks successful and bright,
Who knows what adventures I’ll find?
Though the free world lies within my sight,
A distant memory moves in my mind.
I remember something I truly did share,
Something that felt equally free.
I remember who taught me to be wise and to care,
T’was my loving family.
The one thing in the world that shall last forever,
Is the love that hath kept my family and me together.
#3:
Rebirth
Long have the winter days strolled,
Long have we felt the cold chill.
Though the sky is veiled by looming clouds,
Auspiciousness awaits us still.
A day will come when the clouds will part
To reveal the sacred blue above.
And the beauty will humbly remind us,
How to laugh and live and love.
The white world will blossom anew,
Wit color not seen for so long.
And the orb that shines with cheery gold,
Shall invite the birds to resume their song.
Though we feel arrested by a frosty void,
Rejuvenation is what shall transform,
A world that frigid and fatigable,
Into one that’s bright, colorful and warm.
#4:
My Baby Grand
I walk into the room,
Where the baby grand stands.
The melodious feeling arises,
And the keys beg for my hands.
It’s such a unique construction;
Ivory, strings and lacquered wood.
And it sings its songs in a special way,
That no other instruments could.
So many things can be created on it,
From classics to waltz to blues.
But for someone to craft them perfectly,
There’s only one method they can use.
One must be friends with the baby grand,
One must know all of its precious notes.
One has to feel what emotion it wants,
Only then will its singing voice float.
So I seat myself on the lacquered stool,
With my elbows spread apart.
And after ten years of learning the true magic,
A masterpiece is played from my heart.
As my hands journey across the ivory keys,
My partner singing the entire way,
I realized what its voice meant to me,
And I treasure that baby grand to this day!
