Becoming
We fell in love with our sins.
We broke out of boundaries, hopped fences,
Crossed lines and came out of the darkness.
We got lost to try to find our way.
We looked for an outlet from ourselves,
We crashed parties, took over the dance floor.
We felt the heat of each others bodies,
The sweat from grinding mixing with ours,
The pounding of each others hearts
to the beat of the bass as it dropped.
We danced, cried, and laughed the night away.
We found ourselves only when we stopped looking,
We saw true beauty only when we stared at the
Light long enough to become blinded by it’s intensity.
We learned to appreciate who we are when
We spit on societies thoughts of us.
We are still learning to love ourselves.
We are as lost as hitchhiker hoping
That someone will come along down the road,
Pick us up and take us home.
Our broken hearts are still on the mend.
We try so maliciously to piece back together
The fragments of our hearts, broken and damaged
by careless teenage lust.
The scars on our arms as deeply red
As the highway lines of a map that remind
Us we can only push forward, going
Head first at a 100 mph, our destination unknown.
We let go of our parents hands
Have stepped into the real world,
But it is dark and cold outside,
And we forgot our coats.
