"It's a saying they have, that a man has a false heart in his mouth for the world to see, another in his breast to show to his special friends and his family, and the real one, the true one, the secret one, which is never known to anyone except to himself alone, hidden only God knows where."
-James Clavell, "Shogun"

Where? Where have they gone?

The undying lights which once shone
Even through impermeable realms of time
Have been shrouded by mists of darkness.

A black canvas
Once alive with flickering fibers of hope
Has been tainted with a thick and murky pigment.

The Hall of Records
Once a vast, endless plane of legends and myths
Has been torched, wiped out.
Befouled is the One Path,
As the Speakers of the Ways are silenced by greed.

My home
A flawless design of pure, untouchable beauty
From which one may take, but must in the end give back
A perfect harmony, a peaceful haven
Give, take, give, take.

And yet...
A ravenous beast approaches
Threatening a disruption of our divine sanctuary
One who takes
Yet fails to give.

The nameless fear surrounds us
The footsteps marching, marching,
Along the banks of the ever-rippling river
Who sheds her blood-red tears into the endless oceans of nothingness.

And so...
I watch in despair as my brethren disappear
Falling prey to the cruelty of the new order
The balance of eternal cosmic forces
Has been corrupted by selfish desires.

And as I look once more into the depths
Upon the few visible untouched, heavenly spirits
Gazing innocently through dimensions yet unknown
I find solace in their guiding light.

The last few flickers of hope
keep me yearning for my day of freedom.
And so, to my last, faithful companion,
The great, glowing orb in the sky...

I cry.
