"There's nothing ONLY about being a girl"-Sarah Jane Smith, Doctor Who

My worrisome habits are taking their toll,
I want to keep things in control,
You keep telling me to let go,
That there are so many things that I don’t know

And it’s true, you’re right, I am quite blunt
Constantly searching on an endless hunt,
Five targets, five misses, really bad aim.
Hunting the true most dangerous game.

You saw right through me, saw I lived through fiction,
Read my life story aloud, with a prediction,
Patience the key to catching my prey
Patience, the ultimate virtue, they say.

I set my traps, sat nearby in the trees,
Admiring the way the branches wept their leaves,
I watched as with the leaves wept my tears,
Wondering how many days, months or years.

The leaves stopped falling, they were gone,
Replaced by a dead wooden thing whereupon
I sat, shivering by the fire.
The promise of sun seemed to expire

The sun did come back with a glorious dawn,
The buds on the leaves, tiny botanical spawn.
I opened my eyes toward the reborn ground
And I discovered my trap had been found.

I had caught my game, succeeded at last,
Though I wish it could have come fast
I proved to myself, I’m not all that bad
Or maybe I am, and you are just mad.

With my new acquisition the summer came,
Each blossom and bloom calling my name,
I walked the earth with another pair of feet
We walked, our footsteps composing a suite

Though it is not love, for we are not fools,
I feel like we are just gaining new tools.
For companionship, courting, but for later in life.
You wouldn’t want me to be your wife.

That trap is still there, as is the tree
Waiting for someone to wait for me.
The winters and falls may seem harsh at the time,
But the springs and summers are what compell me to rhyme.

The author's comments:
I woke up at 1:30 am from a crazy dream, so I ran over to my laptop and recorded it in rhyme. I'm not really sure what it means, interpretations are welcome. I would like to thank my sleeping brain and rhymezone.com for making this possible.
