and that fine sheen of dust
trails
like whispers of smoke
a little bit of time
that fell
like
a shooting star
and
it's missed
by all of its star friends
kind of
spindles down
and down
and down
gray
little ones
wondering what in the world happened to this
unsophisticated
creature
and the caterpillars stare up in wonder
maybe wondering if that
gray silver streak
is
a butterfly
and if it is
could they be up there
someday
swooping in and swooping out.

I love this. Everything about this--the idea, the execution, the description... It's amazing.
