young me playing

on the sidewalk

unfazed…for now

dads eyes turning

into pink pools

dad now hunching

now just slouching

towards me after

everybody

vacates out of

elm road for to

night in white clothes

six years on earth

and theres nothing

yet close to you

going away

on that sidewalk

on that sunday

daddy told me

bout the fact that

you wont see me

ever again

The author's comments:

“daddy told me” came from inspiration of the acrostic poem, and poems with shorter lines, such as “The Fish” by Elizabeth Bishop and “There are Birds Here” by Jamaal May. This poem is made in the perspective of a little girl losing her mother. It not only follows the theme and conveys the perspective of the protagonist, but it also follows poetry elements, such as rhythm and acrostic. The saying the first letters of each line says is “you didn’t even say goodbye.” The narrator of this poem is meant to be speaking to her deceased mother. This poem was one of the works where I found a resting spot in the poetry genre.
