Through The Sunrises
Through the Sunrises
Water slowly rocks the dock back and forth,
and the morning fog sits still upon the lake.
I walk towards the end of the dock and let my feet dangle over the edge.
My eyes follow the waters reflection to the sky.
The pinkish-orange clouds feel my eyes with happiness.
My mind brings me back to a year ago at this exact spot.
I watch the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen with my grandma right beside me.
Her loving olive-green eyes were lit up by the colors of the sky.
Her light blush pink scarf wrapped around her head.
Hours.
For hours we would sit on this dock watching the sun rise over the trees.
Talking about our lives and our desires.
We never mentioned her cancer.
I didn’t want to think about what I would do if she left me,
But she did.
In that hospital room, tears rolling down my face,
And her hand in mine,
I knew it was time to say goodbye.
The dock rocks back and forth
And the sun rises over the trees more and brightens the sky.
My grandma will always be with me.
She will shine bright through the sunrises.
