ah, my friend
you have had an interesting life
the other pens
are jealous
they write scribbled notes on post-its
and phone numbers
and “don’t forget to tell Lenny”
but you,
you are a wonder
you have
created
in my hands
dozens of poems
thousands of short stories
a couple novel beginnings
you
have
written
so many things.
please don’t be angry when i
use you for essays
you know i don’t want to,
you know i hate essays
thank you for
your many years
of
service
don’t ever run out on me
