The Snake
I see them smile
Scream
Laugh
Cry
They walk down the boulevard
Hold hands
Then use them to spread hatred
Hostility
Revulsion
Would you want to love?
Would you give your life for someone?
Would you want to give someone your life?
Maybe yes, maybe no
Love lights up the darkness in lamp posts
When children sleeps and the deeds are done
But in the daytime love washes away like the tides in San Diego or Barcelona
rolling downhill
Catching grass in your clothes
But the grass gets longer and never goes away
The grass buries you until you can’t breathe
But you’ve loved it since you were a child
Could you still love when you cry like a baby
Fight like dogs
Scream like world wars
Hate like enemies
The cloud brings darkness, gloomy days come
Mist hovers over the barren streets like debri from gunshots
Plants rot and die
Through the mist seduces another
Loves another
Smile at each other like it is the last chance they will get
Watching the eyes gleam at each other like you used to
Now your eyes gleam with sorrow
You fall face down into the abyss of despair
Can you force the sun to shine in a thunderstorm of your cries?
It will promise brighter days ahead
Promise happiness
Promise love
But you sacrifice yourself into the storm for a rainbow
The mist covers you
Breathe it in and taste it mask your happiness
Let it run through your veins with life
Circulate your wrists while it hisses
Screaming for more fuel
It slithers throughout you
It burns brighter than a mid-July bonfire
Will you feed it’s never-ending hunger?
Or will you live?
Every time the light sheds upon you it howls;
Streams of light spot the clouds as it barrels in,
Killing everything engulfed in mist and giving it life.
The light is near.
You could grab it
But the mist screams
smolders your neck
bites your wrists
It shakes the pill bottles tormenting you from your counter
“Light is death,” it whispers in your ear
But the mist will kill you either way
You clutch the sunlight peeking through
The boulders on your ankles are crack and crumble
You scream like a child stolen from their mother
he malignant eyes pierce through your body
You betrayed them
But they betrayed you
You ascend further into the light
The deep scars on your wrist fade with the mist
The pills plummet out of your pocket onto the dry ground
The gun on your bedside table disintegrates
Light trickles down your back
Do you trust the light?
It forces your mouth open, clutching you within its grasp
The blinding light conceals your vision
You’re dumped back into reality
No scars or razors
You see them smile
So you smile back
