Valor Undefeated
The creature wore an amour of green
Thin wings of leather
And within her fierceness could be seen,
Wild and impossible to tether
All down her back ran the spikes
Sharp claws were attached to her feet
Enough to frighten the little tykes
And make older beings retreat
Her head was encircled like a crown
By her breaths whispery wreath of smoke
While the night’s evening gown
Enveloped her like a cloak
She slept in slumber light
Within her quaint and humble lair
And although it was late at night
Something darker dwelt there
For alas! There was the wound
On her body’s left side
Where her scales were torn and ruined
Where blood had nearly dried
Of all the battles and quarrels
She had participated in
In those motivated by morals
She’d never known evil to win
Every occasion she’d jump back on her feet
She’d fight till the end
Till enemies would cower and retreat
Then the wounds she would mend
She’d fought with the bravery of any pharaoh
And never had she had to depart so hastily
From enemy sword or arrow
She’d never have let herself back down so easily
The pain it caused her, how intense
The suffering how terrible to bear
But she couldn’t see the sense
In wallowing in despair
For when the moonlight was cast
You could see in her eyes
Scenes from her past
Battle, woes and lies
Yet in the midst of her sorrows
Hope glimmered and dwelt there
Hope she would live for many tomorrows
Within her humble and modest lair
The warmth of her heart
Was oft felt by beings afar
Her spirits strength, even in part,
Was greater then any czar
And though her hide bore many scars
And her heart bore many further ones
Her scales still shone like miniature stars
Her eyes yet glowed like celestial suns
The dragon slowly arose to her feet
And decided she would soar
She wouldn’t wait for eternal sleep
She would battle for life as her final war
She yawned with her fearsome jaws
And slowly blinked her eyes
Unfurled her wings, pushed off with her claws
And flew for moonlit skies
For it was not the name of “dragon”
That enemy boldness unseated
‘Twas her courageous spirit drawn,
That of valor undefeated
