Face Value

May 15, 2008

You look at me like an article of clothing in a store.
Either you like me or you don’t.
You take it as face value:
That girl is fat. That boy is stupid.

You judge me on how I look and not on what I am.
I am the only one who understands.
You take it as face value:
That girl is a hot. That boy is fly.

You think you are better than me.
The truth is we are all the same.
You take it as face value:
That girl is dumb. That boy is dangerous.

You talk about me behind my back or even in front of me.
We all do the same.
You take it as face value:
That girl is weird. That boy is a loser.

You feel better by putting me down.
If someone does it to you it’s a big deal.
You take it as face value:
That girl is smart. That boy is fun.

You place a tag on my friends and me.
The same goes for you.
You take it as face value:
That girl is rich. That boy is poor.

We do the same thing to each other.
Face the truth, we are all the same.
We take it as face value:
That girl is mean. That boy is aggressive.

You are the only one that knows the truth.
Our happiness is someone’s pain.
We only hurt each other in the end.
Face value only goes so far.
