I saw her hair blowing in the wind. She was leaning on the railing, hugging herself from the bitter wind. I fought through the thick crowd to get to her.
“Hey, Luna! Luna!” I said.
My heart raced.
“Wow, I mean I haven’t been waiting here for an hour.”
Sarcasm tainted her words.
“I’m sorry…the train, I mean the subway. I missed it and…But, I got you a present.”
“Oh, really?”
She looked up and reached for me. I was shaking, from the cold? From the nervousness?
“I’ve missed you,” she said, “Really, I’ve missed you, Danny.”
I wanted to believe her. I wanted to make her words feel real for once.
Her hands went from my neck to my coat pocket, finding the wrapped, tiny box. She took it out, and stared at it. I could see her eyelashes moving up and down, fast. It was like she was blinking from disbelief.
“What’s the matter?” I said.
“Here, hold my mittens, I want to open this now.”
Her voice came out in a whisper.
“But, It’s cold. Your fingers will be cold.”
“I want to open it.”
She unwrapped and opened it. The tiny ring glinted in the night.
“Surprise!” I said.
She had to say yes, she needed to say yes, she was going to say yes.
She looked up., tears in her eyes.
“Danny, I’m not even in love with you.”

wow... the ending was harsh, I was not expecting that. I can feel the bitterness and the cold, good job with bringing your readers into the setting!
