Looking For Alaska Review

The novel Looking For Alaska, by John Green, is a heartwarming story about love and loss. This book manages to pluck every single one of your heart-strings, by including realistic life experiences, while still making them exciting and intriguing enough for a young adult audience to stay alert. In addition, the author makes all of his points clear, and created characters that most people can relate to. John Green does an amazing job at explaining questionable life situations at a pace that teenagers, like me, can understand.
In this story, the narrator, Pudge, goes to a boarding school in Alabama, where he meets several new people whom he later befriends. One of these new friends happens to be Alaska Young; a beautiful, young, vivacious girl that has Pudge in a frenzy. Alaska, however, comes from a troubled past that sometimes attributes to her sudden outbursts of mixed emotions. Life, for Pudge, changes dramatically after Alaska, and he spends a great deal of the novel trying to understand her unique personality.
This book has taught me a plethora of things about life, and I found myself thinking about it excessively, even weeks after I had read it. Not only did it make me accepting of certain inevitable situations, it helped me be more accepting of myself in general. This is definitely one of the best books I’ve ever read, if not the best, and I highly recommend it to anyone who’s going through something challenging in their life, or to anyone who’s simply interested in a good read. This book isn’t only for young adults and teenagers, so older audiences shouldn’t feel discouraged or excluded. I can almost entirely guarantee satisfaction to anyone who reads this book, because of its storyline, and impeccable writing style.
