The Subtle Knife
The Subtle Knife is the second installment in the His Dark Materials trilogy. In this book there are two different worlds, one is ours and the other is very close to ours, with one of the key differences being that everyone has a Dæmon. In the other world a Dæmon is an animal that represents you and is you in a way, it knows what you are thinking and you are connected with them. In The Subtle Knife I feel that an underlying theme is that in our world people don’t always show their true selves, to become what they think will make them more popular, liked, or anything else they want that they think hiding themselves will get them. I believe that is a sort of hidden morale in the story.
