My Love
If you would longingly call out my name,
I would never hurt you. I’d hold you close
for days and days, until the full moon waned.
I would count every freckle on your nose.
I’d gently close my eyes and kiss your lips
while we slowly danced in the dim twilight.
I’d stroke your essence with my fingertips.
I would fly like a smiling, wind-blown kite.
When you walked, I would walk with you. When you
cried, I would catch your tears in my cupped hands.
When the dark sky scared you, I’d turn it blue.
We’d watch the ocean dance from sun-blanched sands.
Birds and trees would admire us with jealous
pleasure, wishing to learn to love like us.
