The Paris Commune
The City tells a lie,
Something of misfortune,
Something doomed to die,
Something of a commune.
From the painful misery,
From the Franco-Prussian War,
Come the flags of liberty,
Without the common gore.
A new life to witness,
But the rest did not come along,
Too safe or too scared they were to confess,
It seems the same old song.
But come forth and stand upon the altar,
Yet we yet again falter.
