The Cave Today
By allegory Plato did once speak
of shackled men spotting shadows in a cave.
The wisdom-filled words of the ancient Greek
hold truth to the image of man today.
Are fiery figures a harebrained hoax?
Once freed, a man can see clearly: sunlight.
Enlightenment is at last evoked,
but the prisoners see his eyes contrite.
Returning from divine thought to human evils
leaves an old man questioning in his bed,
“Is my mind in a constant upheaval?”
And, “what would happen if we turned our heads?”
