I Alone
Just a sole moment stolen like the last
Now the slow crumbling of transparent stone
Bereaved of memories of morrow's past
I wade through trepid water, I alone.
A dream or shadow, I cannot recall
Though I remember those eyes, black as night
Each ounce of pride or strength, I'd give it all
To wind back time's heavy hands, once so light.
I would smooth the crease in your furrowed brow
Not you nor I could ever be to blame
For fate's cruel hands that betrayed us somehow
By weaving the stars to spell out our names.
I reach the shore, slow moving, towards home
To find it was a dream, I wake, I alone.
