"You know you’re a writer if your friend tells you a heartbreaking story and your first reaction is – wow, that would make an incredible plot for a novel. You know you’re a smart writer if you manage to keep that reaction to yourself."

I sit with a heavy bag of regret
it's all just extra weight
I let the guilt freeze in my bones
and leave nothing left up to fate

I dance in the shadows to hide who I am
my painful fear fits like a glove
and I'm whispering songs of sorrow and hate
for the old me that I used to love

I keep my face painted with masks
and all my guilt wrapped up inside
my confidence left and I'm lonely
and with it it took all my pride
