Medusa named monster for trepidation,

Her stare alone turned warriors to stone.

The strength and fierceness of sharks is certain.

We trust another’s judgment before shown.

We fear those who are unpredictable.

Aggravate a shark and brace for attack,

The force of their bite is formidable.

We fear what we expect, not what is fact.

Although she was not always a gorgon.

Perseus named hero for transgression.

Her head now gone, her son left an orphan,

A girl condemned for gaining attention

For a shark will only bite if starving,

Medusa fought to keep surviving.

The author's comments:

I have always loved poetry and Greek mythology. This gave me a way to put both together.

I wanted to highlight the fact that the myths have been changed so many times throughout history and how we usually only see one side of it.

Survivor is my way of showing how Medusa was only hated because of what others did to her.
