Cat on a Windowsill in Venice
The cat stretches from nose to tail
Before settling into the sunlight.
The dust settles like a veil
Showering the cat in a halo of white.
He curls into the satin pillow
His fur prickling in the cool air,
The breeze, making the sheets billow
And the open windows catching the sun’s glare.
He sleeps with such ease
Unaware of the chaos below
But with a glance to the corner he sees
A small gray mouse; his greatest foe.
With one leap, he is ready to thief
The life from the creature, and make his existence brief.
