Notes scribbled in the margins
Love-me-not, hate-I-do
I'll make eye contact across the room
But only if you look away first.

Days that passed so long ago
Now return to haunt us both.
Reeling by in painful slow-mo
It's a slide-show I can't turn off.

There's history between us,
and you can't deny it's true.
I don't want to forget you.

This is how it will come to pass
I'll be a note in the margins of your life
A hastily scribbled concession
to a past that was more than it seemed.

I'll sit here picking petals off flowers
Going for walks in April showers
Wanting to be more than just a name
A childish dream, a fantasy.

There's history between us,
and you can't deny it's true.
I don't want to forget you.

This is how it will come to pass
I'll be a note in the margins of your life
A hastily scribbled concession
to a past that was more than it seemed.
A past that was more than it seemed.

Think acoustic guitar, maybe a bit of soft piano. Death Cab for Cutie style.
