[Verse]

Something

Has awakened for me

Something

Just keeps interrupting

I can’t focus

Can't concentrate

Why can’t I get rid of the-

[Chorus]

Alarm, Alarm, Alarm, Alarm!

Why can’t I turn the damn thing off?

Alarm, Alarm, Alarm, Alarm!

Why can’t I just hit the snooze?

Alarm, Alarm, Alarm, Alarm!

Blaring every day of the week

Alarm, Alarm, Alarm, Alarm!

Why can’t I just get some sleep?

[Transition from softer, deep acoustic bass to more harsh synth bass]

[Verse]

I’ve infiltrated every thought

Look at all this pain that I have brought

You can’t escape this harsh reality

You can’t just live unconsciously!

I’m the-

[Chorus]

Alarm, Alarm, Alarm, Alarm!

You can’t get me out of your head!

Alarm, Alarm, Alarm, Alarm!

Admit it, you’d be better off dead!

Alarm, Alarm, Alarm, Alarm!

You can’t even complete a single thoug-

Alarm, Alarm, Alarm, Alarm!

I’m doing you a favor, listen-

[Transition back into original, acoustic bass]

[Pre-Chorus]

Every day when I look in the mirror

Every day when I’m in the shower

Every day when I hear my voice

I don’t really have much of a choice-

Every day when I see the news

Every day when I just can’t choose

Every day when I hear my name

Why is every single day the same?

Why can’t I just go the f*** to sleep?

[Outro]

Please

Just five more minutes

Please

Just let me sleep

Please

Even if

It’s only for

A little while

Why

Why can’t I just sleep?

The author's comments:

“Alarm” covers both the perspective of the protagonist along with the voice inside their head that is raising the question of their gender. The voice is portrayed as an alarm that is constantly going off throughout their day-to-day life and follows the protagonist’s obsession with wanting to “go back to sleep” or ignore the voice.
