Pipe Dream
All I wanted was for you to be there
For you to help win the war
But instead, you never showed up
But came back expecting it to be over
I needed someone strong
A shoulder to cry on, if you will
Even though it went against my rep and all my beliefs
You perfectly fit the bill
You wanted someone pretty
Someone with a mind to call their own
But instead, you chose her
Someone with no skills to even to hone
We said that we would be fine
We said that we could last
But after all was said and done
That ¨we¨ was in the past
We thought that we could change lives
Change each other, if you will
But no matter how hard we tried and tried
The only truth would kill
It was a dangerous game
That all who entered dared to play
But with you as king and I as queen
Nothing could stand in our way
We’d thought we’d cheated the game
That our fathers would be so proud
But instead, they were shocked and in disarray
And took away our crowns
¨Go and grow up, ¨ they said,
¨If that is what you want
For that is how you are already acting,
Now go, don’t just stand and taunt¨
They told us to go and never come back
But the modern-esque Romeo never turned slack
He’d made a promise all those years ago
To a girl we’d all long forgotten
That he would make her happy until they were old
And all of the apples long gone rotten
So instead I stand here waiting
At that very same tree
And wishing and wondering what would have happened
Had that girl only been me
