Emerald Daughter

Hand moves swift in fluid motion
He wipes the tears upon her cheeks
Little hands reach out to hug him
A gentle giant gently wakes

Her feet on top of his to dance
A melody that slows the clock
A minute passed is one more gained
As eyes of emerald beauty glimpse

Her beauty radiates his world
The kindness in her eyes his own
She grows each day as time goes by
The marks on kitchen walls recall

An image of a fading dove
Haunts him is his restless slumber
Despair upon the setting sun
A daughter’s heart to beat no more

He tried to reason with the sky
A God he never knew before
But life did play its fickle game
Six feet under, emerald daughter
