Innocence
The child cooed in her arm, utterly at peace.
Life had’t yet beat him down.
The only worries:
sleep,
sustenance,
and defecation.
Even so, the world was scary.
Filled with harsh sounds
and lights burning, just like staring at the sun.
Separation from kind eyes means
loneliness,
sadness,
and fear.
He didn’t ask to be thrust into existence.
There was no choice, no application process.
As if he won a cruise without signing up,
and sometimes he gets seasick.
But right now was peace.
Even in fear and newness,
Innocent life that finds peace.
