My Fire
In solitude I embraced fire,
I wrangled with the flames of hell
And made the devil's sly words into poetry,
Poetry that I spit back at him like a dragon.
I forged embers with my bare hands,
Until my fingers turned black with soot and ash.
My work became like play,
My efforts outlasted the decaying stacks of my peers.
I finally filled the pages with ink and love,
Regret and lead,
Raw emotion and lipstick.
Sure I was alone,
So poetically estranged,
But I burned like the volcanoes I controlled,
And I summoned stars to shine the way I liked.
Words became like pyrotechnics to me,
And now I've learned to touch others,
And set their cold hearts alight,
Alight with
My Fire.
