A Silent Mourning
I clutch Sarah to my chest
and search her calm blue gaze.
She glances back,
a hint of uncertainty flashes in her eyes.
As she sits in my lap, head down on her front paws,
I wonder if she will find a loving home.
I feel as if I am being torn apart.
I fidget, trying to enjoy our last moments.
As she is taken from me,
I watch her beautiful badger face, and soft white fur disappear forever.
As we drive home,
I mourn in silence for the puppy I couldn’t keep.

My dog had puppies and I really got attached to Sarah. She was the calmest and cutest in my opinion. When it was time to sell them it broke my heart to watch her go.
