Fake.
Optimism is a wallpaper
Used to cover the ugly pessimistic surfaces
that surround us
We hang it up and hope the glue will hold
Hasty to cover up any tears that form
Judging those who let it fall
Accepting those who nail it down
Rejecting those who take them down
The wallpaper is safe
They keep the walls of our emotions hidden from us
we hide them under a blanket
of optimism
Criticized for looking too long,
criticized for feeling anything but joy
layer falls
those around watch and stare
Wanting to see the walls that have become so rare
Wanting to see the walls so similar to theirs
Glue was never enough to hold up these lies
