The Colors of the Sky
6:57 am
Pink, orange, and yellow.
Light cuts through the surrounding trees.
I catch sight of the reflection on the lake.
Minutes pass, the sun’s transformation begins.
12:42 pm
Blue, white, and yellow.
Feeling the wool blanket beneath me, I stare, squinting at the sky,
seeing a face, an ice cream cone, and an elephant.
Minutes pass, the transformation continues.
7:19 pm
Purple, navy, and yellow.
The sun fades. The moon appears.
My dad piles the wood. The air feels cooler.
Minutes pass, the transformation continues.
11:06 pm
Black, white, and yellow.
Flames die while I wrap myself in the wool blanket.
The big dipper, fireflies, and moonlight illuminate the sky.
Minutes pass, the transformation continues.
6:57 am
Pink, orange, and yellow.
Light cuts through the surrounding trees.
Catching sight of another reflection on the lake.
Minutes still pass, but the transformation begins again.
