Invincible
Over the years of my daring life
The subtlety of my power made me doubtful
But at once the epiphany of the truth
Struck me like: I am
invincible
I only watch romantic comedies
half-way through, and let the star-crossed lovers
remain forever on their first date of
stolen glances and upper lips beaded with sweat.
and I know I am definitely
invincible
I buy my flip flops a size smaller
So my pinky toes can graze the
weathered streets,
But I never get infections, so
I know I am, undoubtedly,
invincible
I eat kabobs from foreign vendors
Who cannot accommodate the unspoken rule:
"Employees must wash hands"
And when I the toilet bowl doesn't sing my name
I know I am, truthfully,
invincible
I stop stout strangers in the subway
And ask them: how far along are you?
When the beer-bellied men with patchy cherry cheeks
let out a hearty exhale
I know for sure I am
invincible
I go to bars on Friday nights
In a men's shirt and cargo pants
and let my curls run wild
As the bouncer lets me through
I know I am, one hundred percent,
invincible
