Dark is the midnight sky expanded before,
Raven are the crows that swoosh above.
I can touch the ebony smoke filling my nostrils.
Onyx roses brush my grey legs,
my black dress swishes around sooty ankles,
and inky tresses frame my shadowed face.
Grim and foul is my blackened soul,
like the unlit heavens,
and the depths of hell.
Stygian is the road I follow.
Charred are the ropes around my filthy wrists,
and obsidian are the horses trailing my path.
On through the abyss we walk and trot,
until the ashes smother our skin and coats.
The menacing inferno blazes in front,
darkened like my heart.
Ankles and wrists are bound to the slate-colored pole.
A monstrous scream tears from my throat,
as the diabolical flames lick at my skin.
Soon, I am as burnt as the smoke filling the charcoal sky.

I was inspired to write this piece based on the color black. Although it is a seemingly dark piece, this poem reflects the ideas of hope and freedom through the burning and release from this world.
