It’s strange how quickly life can change
How many lights diminish without  a single breath
And the darkness you’ve been swimming in for so long is only the surface.
But if life was filled with light then my heart would not be nocturnal,
Coming alive even in the darkest moments
And embracing night with open arms
Because I know the sun will rise and I will breathe again.

The beauty of being alive is not being kissed by comfort
Because happiness would be meaningless if pain ceased to exist.

Suffering is beautiful.
Not wanted or beneficial;
There is beauty in the way our hearts seem to mend after the worst of breaks
And the sadness that fills our lungs is strengthening our bones
Because without pain we wouldn’t be strong

Suffering is not weakness
Vulnerability is not flawed
Pain is a symbol of the beauty of being alive
Despite our lives turning our backs

But yet, we are filled with “why’s.”
Why do all of these horrible, evil things keep betraying my freedom
But the answer lies not within the past
But how you decide to dance with the darkness embracing you.

I could curse the universe and nature and heaven
And destroy what has destroyed me
Or, I could write in a book made from living trees
That, despite being sacrificed for the good of humanity,
Are made into the most beautiful creations that even nature could not produce.

There is no beauty without suffering.
With pain we are reminded of the importance of life
And to understand that we are not defined by our past or even our future.
We are what we are right now at every moment
We are alive
And life is the most precious gift we can ever accept
And no matter how many times our leaves are torn off our bodies
Our roots keep us grounded and thrive on the sunshine we feed it.

We are alive
And we can do countless, beautiful things
Because the pain we went through yesterday
Taught us what beauty is and what light is and what love is.

We are never losing in this beautiful phenomenon we call life.
We are fighters.
We are creators.
We are artists.
And we can make the world into whatever we want it to be.
