the you in my mind
draws.
not art,
but with crooked thought
paints the idea
that they are like you.
except they are not.
they're nothing like you.
yes, they're always
in my nightmares
but they aren't the monster in the
basement.
they are the hero
with blue hair and a beanie
come to save me from
you.
yes, sometimes
they hurt me
but their apologies
are sincere
something you could never manage.
yes, their words remind me of you
and their actions too
but not always-
and i know they wouldn't
hurt me,
not purposely.
they aren't you
no matter what the you in my mind
paints.
they aren't you
no matter what the monster in my basement
screams.
they are one to be trusted,
unlike you.
