Where I'm From

I’m from towering pine trees and thick dewy grass.
From autumn days in my navy blue fleece jacket,
and the oak tree’s acorns beneath my feet.

I’m from silky blankets and fluffy pillows.
From pretend castles and dark caves,
and battles waiting to be fought.

I’m from the worn, brown fence behind the house.
From stale smells of the rotting wood,
and the deer hopping over it.

I’m from the driveway leading up to the house.
From leamonde stands at the bottom,
and chalk drawings on the Fourth of July.

I’m from white leather and red stitches.
From the balls in the bucket marked “A/D,”
and the magical games under the lights.

I’m from cardboard boxes and an empty house.
From new faces, new friends,
and new challenges to accept.

I’m from the sweat showering my face.
From the mud covering my shoes
and the booming crowd at the finish.
