It hasn't been as easy as they said it would be
I can't feed the world.
I can't find the cure for cancer,
For broken bones,
For heartbreak.
I can brainstorm what might happen if cures were found.
I can't give a hug to everybody.
I can't hold hands with weeping parents,
With boys who are "too sensitive",
With girls walking home alone.
I can hold a pen in my hand.
I can't nod my head when everyone needs to feel included.
I can't laugh at everyone's jokes,
Smile at their general shenanigans,
Listen to their mundane stories that are anything but mundane.
I can remember all the stories that I have heard in the past.
It's funny how much that we cannot do.
We have rules and regulations,
Laws that bind us,
Limits that restrict us.
But we can write. We can be aware. We can change.
So why don't we?
