A cold winter night, the sky full of life
The wolf on the ledge spots a elk wandering through the woods
a ravenous hunger in her belly
moving from its ledge the wolf stalks its prey,
through the trees, through the clearings, keeping its distance, crouching
pouncing as the elk stops for food, missing
the elk flees, blood flowing, adrenaline flows
at breakneck speed the wolf pursues
reaching its target the wolf lunges--a hit
together wolf and elk hit the ground,
the snapping of jaws--the tearing of flesh
the scent of blood in her nose,
