Lake Michigan
I imagined standing on round beach edges
of that rocky lake,
stars were pulled away by Night's handkerchief
prussian blue f a d i n g . . . as the Sun emerged
until folds of clouds rolled~~~out
like unraveled pink ribbons~~~
embroidering my thoughts
I didn't know a lavish sunrise could feel so unjustly sad
the world was beginning;
but my heart, still running and aimless
as we drove away from our weekly portent
