Less Than The Minimum
t's all well and good to kick back and chill
Smoke just for fun, go out for a thrill
To laugh and joke and sit in the park
No statements to last, just exchange mundane remarks
Stand facing each other, but don't turn back to see
A vast world around us, beyond these bushes and trees
Beyond all our phone screens beyond the TV
beyond all we think we know, beyond what we ever will
About culture, about nature
Of good nature and of ill
The laws to which we're bound
When government receives a bill
Which could make us rich, could make us poor
Yet we're still standing very still
It could make your rights, restrict your rights, perhaps they'd even take your rights
And if that were to happen, would it make you feel contrite ?
Or if, no, WHEN all the oil's gone
You'd ironically see the light
But you wouldn't be able to switch any on!
We still have the choice though to kick back and chill
The only purpose we give to time is for us to kill
And with the little bit we have of it,
Relinquished at our free will
MIDDLE...EAST I exclaim, now what honestly came to your mind?!
Bombs and terror and dictatorship, are common answers I tend to find?
Yes these things do sadly. happen, but clearly in some way we're blind!
Cuz in the name of America's carefully-conducted wars
Great civilisations get left behind
With prejudice and fabricated hatred, firmly intertwined
And the brief knowledge, of the fall of our brothers
For nationalism means peace of mind.
How much do you know about PALESTINE?!
Profess your euphemistic bliss
A gap in many peoples' knowledge;
a scary, empty abyss
I thought this was 2k14, I'm sure we're not back in '39
Though I must confess, to think so, I often am inclined
United Nation international law dictates an obligation
For occupying powers,
To ASAP end said occupation
And until this is possible, protect the population
But Palestine certainly hasn't got the right to self determination
Infrequent retaliation on a minor scale
Lead the Israeli state, as righteous to be hailed
But a different reality to realise, we fail
An eye for a million, a tooth for a million, so they're left fighting tooth and nail
The biggest fight on the inside, to be told they'll never prevail
A people oppressed, deprived and cheated
Homeless, annexed, slowly depleted
Hopefully you see now, why I feel it's history repeated
Nothing learned from 39.
I guarantee at least one of you reading this now,
Will be sitting in turmoil
Wondering how
I knew nothing of this, I feel like a fool
I don't blame you, they don't teach it in school
I refer once again to euphemistic bliss
But now I tell you, for us, most of the WORLD'S an abyss
We don't know which parties are false or are honest
Which ones are responsible for tearing apart the rain forest
We don't know whose bombs are falling on who
Which conflict's old, which conflict's new
Which one affects me, which one affects you
Of these things we simply have no view
We can not even do the minimum to sit back and stare
We do less than the minimum, turn our backs unaware
