December Air

Love is like a summer day,
Full of light and warm air.
It can be great, like the sun, but it can be awful,
similar to the December air.

I have lived in the December air,
It left me frigid.
I see her waiting there in her varsity jacket,
But it could also be unbuttoned.
Confusion is strong, was it something I may have said? Desperation engulfed me.

I don’t know how I got here, but I want the desert.
I have been frozen since the first leaf fell in autumn of this year.
In an attempt to thaw, I use a lighter,
But in the end, I only get burned.
