Skyscraper Fever

I rush out of my 30-floor building, through the heated entrance, across the sidewalk before the door even automatically locks behind me. I stoop down next to the planted tree, six inches from the curb where a red Lambo is parked, while its owner is, no doubt, getting drunk in the champagne lounge blasting hip-hop across the street. I thrust my hands, with my fingers spread, past the metal grate around the tree's trunk and into the dirt.
I exhale.
I just needed a moment with nature.
