Parallel Universes

Hours later I found myself in the Bronx.
Confusion danced inside my brain
for my journey began in Manhattan.
I expected fear instead of curiosity
but then again I expected
tears instead of laughter.
Lately I tend to always surprise myself.

I walked until
street signs became more foreign
than the peculiar faces passing by
and minutes turned to hours and
music was the only voice I heard
for the first time in my life.

The sun was going down
and my body took me to a fountain
more beautiful than the ones
dropped randomly around my
insignificant meager town.

It was wider than any pool I’ve ever swam in and
there were five massive stone steps that wrapped around
the outer part of the water which was some three feet deep.

My reflection rippled as I ran
the tips of my fingers along the
translucent chilled portal.
A portal which could lead me out of
this world and into a new one.
Maybe into a better one,
for the girl inside that universe
with small waves on the surface
looked less trapped
then the girl standing
staring into that fountain
unbalanced and about
to fall
in.
But maybe that’s exactly what I wanted.

I wrote this a few weeks ago when I got lost in NYC. It was quite the experience but I enjoyed chatter.
