The Decision
Light turns to dark
As day falls to night
Full moon and a billion stars
Giving her perfect sight
Warm with a summer breeze
Drumming of cicadas to a steady beat
Scent of rain in the air
Lying in the grass
Praying the pain shall ease
Her eyes flutter closed
Takes a deep breath in
As the soft warm air
Begins to freeze
All grows silent
As the rain begins to descend
Only then do the tears begin
Sky lights up behind her eyes
Thunder rolls in stressful sighs
Dull static of rain roars in her ears
Growing louder and louder with every drop
Soaked in seconds
Only her mouth moves
Screaming his name
With her apologies
Her lungs begin to burn
Throat starts to hurt
Her voice grows weak
Descending to a whisper
Begging, please
Desperate to release this feeling
To remember anything but pain
A sudden thought crosses her mind
With a clap of thunder
A bright, white bolt of lightning
Rain stops
And the storm ends
Lying still, she opens her eyes
Steady stream of tears
Reduces to streaks on her face
The drum of cicadas continues
As if they never stopped
The air is warm again
With the soft summer breeze
As if none of it ever happened
Yet she holds this thought in her mind
Wondering
How shall I decide
Shaking, she stands
Blinking the tears out of her eyes
As a dark figure steps into the blue of the moonlight
Dark black hair, deep brown eyes
This will affect many
Think not only of the present, but the past and future as well
He tells her
You know what is right
The question is not the decision
But whether or not you are strong enough to do what must be done
Before he is gone
She is left alone all over again, but now with new knowledge
The decision
