Broken Bottles
Loving you is as easy
as driving a car along the vast
California coast as the sanguine sunset
sets on the horizon and a seagull nibbles on
a garlic knot where two lovers once sat
eating a picnic that she
prepared but they didn’t finish and they left
footprints in the sand beside a red stained napkin
and the salty wind whispers her name in the voice
of a man saying I love you but he doesn’t mean it and she
lives the rest of her life with a heart made of sand just mere
ground up particles of glass- transparent and empty.
